# Can I hide categories I don't use in Tagging?

Yes! You can hide any Tagging category — default *or* custom — without deleting it. Hidden categories disappear from the Category Picker in your tagging toolbar but stay in your customization for whenever you want them back.

|| 📝 NOTE: Tagging is an [Industry Pro](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-is-scriptation-industry-pro-1jfjecg/) feature.

|| 📝 NOTE: Tagging customizations are stored **per device**. To use the same set of hidden and visible categories on multiple devices, see [How do I share Tagging Customizations with other devices?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-share-tagging-customizations-with-other-devices-l7tr8y/).

| ✅ TIP: Hiding is the right choice if your production only uses a handful of categories. You can hide every category you won't be tagging — including default ones — and keep your Category Picker focused on just what your team needs.

### Opening Tagging Customization

###### In Scriptation 6.0 and later

In 6.0, two paths lead to the same place — the **Tagging** tab in Settings. Pick whichever is easier from where you are:

* Tap the **three-dot menu** (**⋯**) at the top-right of the screen, select **Settings**, and go to the **Tagging** tab;
* Or, enter Tagging Mode from the [Top Toolbar](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/an-overview-of-the-top-toolbar-i5y1y8/) and tap **Customize** — this also opens the Settings modal at the Tagging tab.

### Hiding a Category

1. Tap **Edit** at the top-right of the category list;

2. Tap the **blue dot** to the left of any category you want to hide. The category moves into the **Hidden** section at the bottom of the list;
3. Repeat for as many categories as you'd like to hide;
4. Tap **Done** at the top-right when you've finished.

Hidden categories no longer appear in the Category Picker when you tag in Tagging Mode. They stay in your customization, ready to bring back whenever you need them.

### Bringing a Hidden Category Back

1. Tap **Edit** at the top-right;
2. Scroll to the **Hidden** section at the bottom of the list;
3. Tap the **green dot** next to the category you want to bring back — it moves back to the **Visible** section;
4. Tap **OK** when you're done.

### Hide vs. Delete

Both Hide and Delete remove a category from the Category Picker, but they're not the same:

* **Hide** — fully reversible. Works on every category, default or custom. The category stays in your customization; you can bring it back any time;
* **Delete** — permanent. Only works on custom categories you've added (you can't delete default categories). For the delete walkthrough, see [Can I add my own categories in Tagging?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/can-i-add-a-custom-category-for-tagging-1xwf2s5/).

If you're trying to clean up your Category Picker, **Hide is almost always the right choice** — it's reversible and works on everything.
