# Can I send a Layer as a PDF?

**Yes.** Scriptation's **Export PDF** option creates a flat PDF of your script with just the Layer(s) you've selected — perfect for sharing with collaborators who don't use Scriptation. The output is a regular PDF anyone can open in any PDF viewer.
### How to export a Layer as a PDF

1. With your script open, tap the **Menu** icon (the three-dot icon) at the top right of the [Top Toolbar](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/an-overview-of-the-top-toolbar-i5y1y8/);
2. Under **Share Document**, tap **Export Layers**;
3. Choose **PDF** (*shareable with anyone*);

4. Select the Layer(s) you want to include, then tap **Share**;

5. The standard iOS or macOS Share sheet opens — send via email, AirDrop, Messages, save to Files, or any other destination.

| ✅ TIP: You can also reach Export Layers from the **Layers sidebar** itself — tap the **Layers** icon, then the **Export** icon at the upper left of the Layers list, and choose **Export PDF**.

### When to use PDF vs. SLF (Scriptation Layer File)

* Use **Export PDF** when your collaborator **doesn't use Scriptation** — they get a flat, viewable PDF with the notes baked in.
* Use [**Export SLF**](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-share-layers-with-export-14uqv6c/) when your collaborator **also uses Scriptation** — the .slf file can be [imported](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-import-layers-18b0u91/) onto their copy of the script, keeping the notes editable as a Layer.

|| 📝 NOTE: PDF export flattens the Layer's annotations onto the script pages — they can't be edited, toggled, or removed by the recipient. For an editable, toggle-able set of notes, share the .slf file instead.

| ✅ TIP: Want a Tagging Breakdown Report that only includes one Layer's tags? Reports currently pull tags from every Layer regardless of visibility (the eye icon doesn't filter them out). Export just the Layer you want as a new PDF using the steps above, then generate your report from that exported PDF — it will only include the tags from that single Layer.
