# Does Scriptation work offline without a Wifi or Data connection?

Yes — Scriptation is **fully functional** offline once your files are downloaded to your device. There's no Wi-Fi or data connection required to read or annotate.

Scriptation is built for both studio and location production, and there may be times when internet access isn't available. There are two scenarios for offline work, depending on how you store your files.

1. **Local Files**

If files are stored **On my iPad / iPhone**, they are local to your device. Internet access isn't necessary to work on these files.

2. **Online Files**

Every time you open a script from one of the [Cloud](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-sync-files-across-devices-with-cloud-storage-rj94v/) providers in Scriptation, a local copy is **also** saved to your device. As you make annotations, they're **saved locally**.

You always know when a file is saved locally because the **cloud icon** turns into a **preview image** of your PDF.

| ✅ TIP: If you're working across multiple devices, make sure the latest version of your file has been opened on your device while you still have internet access.

Any time your device is offline, you'll see the "No internet connection" message in the Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive folders.

Once your device is back online, Scriptation will automatically upload to the cloud the most recent version of any edited files.
