# How do I avoid conflicted copies with multiple devices of my own?

Scriptation is designed to work on the same file across your iPad, iPhone, and Mac — but if you have the same file open on more than one device at a time, you can occasionally end up with a "conflicted" copy.

A conflicted copy is created when two devices save changes to the same file simultaneously. When both versions upload back to the cloud, they don't match, so both are kept separately.

Here's how to avoid it:

1. **Work on one device at a time** — and **wait for the file to sync** to your other devices before switching;
2. Make sure you're running the latest [version of Scriptation](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/current-version-and-system-requirements-1yryfi7/) — we regularly update our connections to cloud providers;
3. To force a cloud sync at any time, open a second document and switch tabs. (See [How often do files sync?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-often-do-files-upload-sync-to-cloud-6pttkr/) for the full auto-sync details.)

If changes were made to your file from another device, you'll see this message:

* Tap **Keep current version** to continue working on your local copy — but be aware that the cloud version is now out of sync, and a conflicted copy will likely appear;
* Tap **Replace with cloud version **to discard unsaved local changes and pull down the cloud version;
* Tap **Keep both versions** to force a conflicted copy of the local version so you can select which draft to continue working on.
