# How do I avoid conflicted copies with my team?

Don't share a single PDF file via cloud folder with your team — use **Layers** instead. Each person keeps their own copy of the script, and you selectively share notes via Layer export (or [Live Layers](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-live-layers-and-how-do-i-get-set-up-1fowibn/) on Team licenses).

If multiple users actively work in the same file inside a shared folder, a "conflicted" version is created — because two people had the file open at the same time, made changes simultaneously, and both versions uploaded back to the cloud and don't match.

Scriptation (along with every other PDF annotation app) can't offer real-time collaboration on PDFs the way Google Docs does for word processing.

### The recommended workflow

Each collaborator keeps their own copy of the script and shares specific [Layers](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-layers-and-how-do-i-use-them-1ozes9v/) of notes. For the full walkthrough — including the production-binder analogy and why this works better than a shared file — see [Can multiple people collaborate on one document?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/can-multiple-people-collaborate-on-one-document-1biqadt/)

When it's time to share, an individual user [Exports a Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-share-layers-with-export-14uqv6c/) to their collaborator. The recipient then [imports the Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-import-layers-18b0u91/) onto their own script — or combines files into a master document and [merges Layers](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-merge-layers-1k9kad7/) if desired.

| ✅ TIP: For [Scriptation Team](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-is-scriptation-team-4bxf8z/) productions, ${color}[#33CC66](Live Layers) is the fastest version of this workflow. Live Layers lets users instantly share notes within a team, with customized share groups, password protection, notifications, and revision notes — see [What are Live Layers?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-live-layers-and-how-do-i-get-set-up-1fowibn/).
