# How do I change the order of annotations?

When annotations overlap, you can change which one sits on top using the **Order** controls in the Style Palette.

|| 📝 NOTE: This video shows a slightly older user interface, but the instructions are still accurate.

By default, the newest annotation appears on top. Adjusting the order helps when you want to arrange annotations in a custom stack.

In this example we have two annotations — a Text Box and a Circle. We want the Text Box in front, but it's currently behind:

On the Text Box, tap the **Style Palette**.

Under the **Order** heading there are four options, from left to right:

* Bring to Front
* Bring Forward
* Send Backwards
* Send to Back

Tap the left icon for **Bring to Front**.

| ✅ TIP: Still not working? Be sure to deselect any active annotation tools.

|| 📝 NOTE: Style Palette → Order only appears for Text Boxes, Shapes, and Marker notes. To reorder Stamps and Photos, tap and drag them within the [Annotation Outline](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/outline-viewing-and-searching-your-annotations-6opg9t/).
