# How do I enable automatic app updates?

Keep Scriptation up to date automatically by turning on **Automatic Updates** in your Apple ID settings. Scriptation regularly ships improvements, bug fixes, and OS-compatibility updates — running the current version means fewer issues, better performance, and compatibility with the latest iPadOS and macOS releases.

### iPhone / iPad

1. Open the **Settings** app on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap your **Apple ID** at the top of the menu.
3. Tap **iCloud** → **App Store** (path may vary by iOS version — alternatively, scroll down in Settings and tap **App Store** directly).
4. Make sure **App Updates** is toggled on.

### Mac

1. Open the **App Store** app.
2. In the menu bar, click **App Store** → **Settings** (called **Preferences** on macOS 12 Monterey and earlier).
3. Make sure **Automatic Updates** is checked.

| ✅ TIP: Even with automatic updates on, the App Store sometimes lags behind by a day or two when a new Scriptation release ships. If you know a specific update is out (for example, you just upgraded macOS and need a Scriptation compatibility fix), open the App Store and tap **Update** manually on the Scriptation page.

### Manually updating Scriptation

If you don't see an update available but know you're on an older version, try these steps:

1. Visit [our Scriptation page on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/scriptation-pdf-for-film-tv/id1094587086) directly (rather than searching for it within the App Store app).
2. If the button on the page says **Update**, click/tap it to install the latest version.
3. If the button says **Open** instead, this means you already have the latest version installed — Apple sometimes rolls out updates gradually, so the App Store's own search results may not reflect this yet even though the direct App Store page does.
4. If you're still on an older version after this, try closing and reopening the App Store app, or restarting your device, then checking the direct App Store page again.
