# How do I export / share my script with just one layer?

There are two ways to share a script with only one layer's notes — the right choice depends on whether your collaborator is also using Scriptation.

|| ⚠️ IMPORTANT: The standard **Share** button always includes all annotations in the file, regardless of which layers you currently have set to visible or hidden inside Scriptation. Layer visibility toggles only affect what you see on-screen — they don't carry over to a shared/exported file. If you want to control which layers a collaborator actually sees (without deleting any of your own layers), use **Export Layers > PDF** and deselect the layers you don't want included, as described below.

### For collaborators who use Scriptation

If the recipient is working with the same script file as you, you can [export the Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-share-layers-with-export-14uqv6c/) as a **Scriptation Layer File (.slf)**. The recipient can then easily [import the Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-import-layers-18b0u91/) into their own script and view your notes alongside theirs.

|| 📝 NOTE: When a Layer is shared as an SLF file, only annotations on Native script pages are shared. Annotations on [Added Pages](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-add-and-move-pages-mcsyk8/), [Facing Pages](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-add-facing-pages-to-your-script-1qh8gjs/), or [Copied/Pasted Pages](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-copy-and-paste-pages-with-the-page-maker-1m36bl1/) are not. This restriction allows for the successful sharing of Layers between teams working on the same script, as added pages are personalized to each individual user.

### For all other collaborators

You can start the PDF export from the **Menu** in the Top Toolbar (added in Scriptation 6.0) or from the **Layers** sidebar — both paths reach the same export options.


###### Method 1: From the Top Toolbar Menu (Scriptation 6.0)

1. **Touch** or **click** the **Menu** icon (the three-dot icon) in the top-right corner of the [Top Toolbar](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/an-overview-of-the-top-toolbar-i5y1y8/);
2. Under the **Share Document** section, **touch** or **click** **Export Layers**;
3. From the submenu, choose **PDF** (*Create a new document*).

###### Method 2: From the Layers Sidebar

1. In the [Top Toolbar](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/an-overview-of-the-top-toolbar-i5y1y8/), **touch** or **click** the **Layers** icon to display the Layers menu;

2. **Touch** or **click** the **Export** icon at the upper left;

3. Choose **Export PDF**.

### Choose your layer(s) and share

Once you've opened the export options, the steps are the same for both methods:

1. Select the layer(s) you'd like to include in the export, then **touch** or **click** **Share**:

2. A standard Share window will open — from here you can export the file via AirDrop, Mail, Gmail, or any other method that supports file transfer:

|| 📝 NOTE: A standard **Share** or "send a copy" of your script always includes **every** visible Layer — that's why using the regular Share button instead of Export PDF often causes an unwanted Layer (like a Tagging or Info Layer) to appear in the exported file. Use Export PDF whenever you want to exclude any Layers, including [Info Layers](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-info-layers-and-how-do-i-use-them-1gkr5qc/) like scene numbers or 8ths, since Info Layers are hidden rather than deleted when their toggle is turned off and will still be included in a standard Share. To include an Info Layer specifically in an Export PDF, [duplicate the Info Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-info-layers-and-how-do-i-use-them-1gkr5qc/#4-how-to-duplicate-and-edit-info-layers) first so it appears as a selectable Layer in the list.
