# How do I import and convert images to PDF?

Scriptation can import **JPG** and **PNG** image files and automatically convert them to PDFs — fully annotatable, just like any other Scriptation script.

### Preserving Transparency in PNGs

When inserting a PNG as an image annotation on top of an existing script page, Scriptation should preserve any transparency in the file. However, transparency can be lost before the image ever reaches Scriptation, depending on how the file was handled beforehand:

* **Drag and drop directly from Finder (or the Files app)** is the most reliable way to keep a PNG's transparency intact.
* **Avoid importing through Apple's Photos app first.** Photos is known to convert PNGs to JPEG on import (especially when iCloud Photos is enabled), and since JPEG doesn't support transparency, the alpha channel gets stripped out before Scriptation sees the image.
* If you need to use the **Insert Image** button rather than drag and drop, store your transparent PNGs in the **Files app** instead of Photos, then insert from there to keep the transparency intact.

### Import an Image on iPad or iPhone

1. Open the image file from its current location;
2. Tap the **Share** icon at the top right of the screen;
3. Tap **Scriptation** from the list of apps.

| ✅ TIP: If you don't see Scriptation in the share sheet, swipe left and tap **More**, then tap Scriptation from the complete app list. Scriptation only appears in the share sheet for PDF, JPG, and PNG files.

4. In the Import screen that opens, navigate to your destination — either a local folder or a [Cloud](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-sync-files-across-devices-with-cloud-storage-rj94v/) folder;

5. Tap **Select** to save. Scriptation converts and saves a PDF copy at the location you chose.

||| ⚠️ HEADS UP: If your scripts are saved locally (i.e., **On My iPad**), they won't be accessible on other devices.

### Import an Image on Mac

On Mac, all your files and folders are visible after clicking **Select File** from the Scriptation home screen. You can also drag and drop the image file into the **Drop File Here** area.
