# How do I merge notes layers into lining layers?

When generating tramlines using the [Lining toolkit](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-use-lining-tools-pzb2l3/), all your tramlines are created in a new layer called **Lining**. If you have notes in other layers, they can be merged into your Lining layer for export.

1. Touch or click **Layers** in the Top Toolbar:

2. Touch or click the 3-dot icon at the upper left of the Layer pane and choose **Merge**:

3. Tap the radio buttons of the layer(s) you'd like to merge into a Lining layer **and** the radio button of the Lining layer, then tap **OK**:

| ✅ TIP for Mac users: Press and hold the **Command** key to select multiple checkboxes.

4. All your notes have been merged into Lining. A new [default layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-change-my-default-layer-name-ml29pl/) is automatically created — necessary for some Scriptation functions, but you don't need to take notes in it.

| ✅ TIP: To merge notes into multiple Lining layers (Lining, Lining 2, Lining 3, etc.), first make a copy of your layer via [Layer Export](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-share-layers-with-export-14uqv6c/) and [Layer Import](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-import-layers-18b0u91/) before merging each copy into a separate Lining layer.

| ✅ TIP: Editor Exports only pull from your Lining Layer, so any [Info Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-info-layers-and-how-do-i-use-them-1gkr5qc/) content (such as Dialogue Numbers) needs to be [duplicated into an editable Layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-info-layers-and-how-do-i-use-them-1gkr5qc/#4-how-to-duplicate-and-edit-info-layers) and merged into your Lining Layer before exporting if you want it included.
