# How do I redeem a promo code or gift card?

To redeem a promo code or Apple Gift Card for Scriptation, open the **App Store** on your iPad, iPhone, or Mac, tap or click the redeem option in your Apple account menu, and enter your code. Step-by-step instructions for each device are below.

2. At the top of the screen, **tap your photo** or the sign-in button;

3. Tap **Redeem Gift Card or Code.** If you don't see "Redeem Gift Card or Code," then sign in with your Apple ID. Click [here](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201354) if you forgot your Apple ID;

# Having trouble redeeming your code?

If you hit an error while redeeming, here's what's usually going on and what to do:

* **"Cannot redeem code"**: This typically means the promo has expired or the code has already been used. Contact Scriptation support with the offer/code you were trying to use — if it was a limited-time promo, we may be able to issue a fresh code with the same discount.
* **"Not eligible"**: Most discount and promo codes (Black Friday, student, union/guild) are first-time-only introductory offers. If you've ever had an Industry Pro subscription or free trial on that Apple ID — even briefly, even a while ago — Apple will block the code with this message. Contact support and we can generate a custom redemption link that bypasses the restriction.
* **Code was forgotten before subscribing, or a subscription was already purchased at full price**: Apple has no way to retroactively apply a discount code to an existing subscription — codes must be redeemed *before* subscribing. You have two options: (1) cancel your current subscription and [request a refund from Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084), then redeem your code to re-subscribe at the discounted rate, or (2) hold onto the code and reach out to support when your current subscription is coming up for renewal so we can generate you a fresh one (discount codes have expiration dates, so check with support if your renewal is far off).
* **Code appears "used up" but you don't recall redeeming it, or your subscription isn't showing as active**: Apple only allows one redemption per customer for a given offer. If a discounted subscription was redeemed on your Apple ID in the past — even if it has since lapsed or you don't remember completing it — further codes tied to that same offer will be rejected. Contact support with your User ID so we can check your redemption history and issue a different type of offer code if needed.
* **A saved or emailed discount code disappeared, or the email never arrived**: If you saved a promo code for later and it's no longer available, or you never received the email containing your code, contact support — we can generate a fresh code for the same discount.
* **A discount code was already used and a later renewal code fails**: Once a discount has been redeemed on an Apple ID, further codes tied to that same offer (even a differently-branded partner code, e.g. from another union or guild) will read as "ineligible," since multiple partner codes can point to the same underlying offer. Contact support with your User ID — we can often issue a different type of offer code that isn't tied to the one already used.
