# How do I replace scenes?

Got a packet of revised scenes? The right approach depends on how your production distributed them.

|| 📝 NOTE: If your revised scene pages aren't dropping into your script correctly, the fix depends on how the scenes were issued — let us know whether you received a separate PDF of new/revised scenes or colored revision pages, and follow the matching section below. New or revised scenes (like A & B pages) that are additions to your script should be added with [Page Manager](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-add-pages-into-my-script-mcsyk8/); revised pages that replace existing scenes should use Collate Pages, covered below.

### Full scripts

Transferring notes from a full script to a full script is always the best approach. If you can get a fully collated revised script, follow the [Note Transfer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-transfer-my-notes-1khpcd8/) instructions.

### Locked pages

If you receive **revised page packets with locked pages** instead of a full draft, use [Collate Pages](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/transferring-notes-to-a-new-set-of-pages-the-collated-pages-process-1q0eev9/) to insert the new pages and transfer your notes in a single step.

### Locked scenes (workaround)

Some productions distribute packets of **new scenes** rather than locked pages of a complete script. Receiving isolated scenes can be tricky — we recommend asking your production folks for locked pages instead, because anyone on your show using Scriptation will run into trouble transferring notes from isolated scene packets.

If that's not possible, here's a workaround. Results may vary.

1. On your Full Script (the one with all your notes), create [Sides](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-create-script-sides-in-scriptation-1rfarbu/) of the scene(s) being replaced;
2. After the Sides file is created, enable [Lock mode](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/using-auto-highlight-in-sides-if0mi7/) to lock the pages of this new PDF;
3. Open the PDF with the **New Scene(s)** in a new tab;
4. Perform a [Note Transfer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-transfer-my-notes-1khpcd8/) from the New Scene PDF, selecting your Sides file as the source;
5. After the transfer, your notes will be on the New Scene PDF. [Copy and paste](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-copy-and-paste-pages-with-the-facing-pages-tool-1m36bl1/) these pages back into your Full Script;
6. Use [Master Edit Mode](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-use-master-edit-mode-f5bv6c/) to assign the pages that were copied/pasted as **Native Pages**, and the out-of-date pages as **Added Pages**;
7. With the out-of-date pages marked as Added, you can delete them from the Facing Pages tool.

Two things to watch for:

* Pay attention to [Deleted Annotations](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-deleted-annotations-12eiwnm/) — these may include annotations on script material that was part of the Master Script but isn't in the revised scenes;
* This workaround can leave you with many Layers, so [Merging Layers](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-merge-layers-1k9kad7/) may help.

| ✅ TIP for Final Draft 12 users: If you receive revised scenes, try converting the New Scene PDF back into a Final Draft script that matches your pagination. Then export as a PDF from Final Draft, [import](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/importing-and-opening-scripts-in-scriptation-k34r8d/) into Scriptation, and perform a [Collate Pages](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/transferring-notes-to-a-new-set-of-pages-the-collated-pages-process-1q0eev9/) transfer.
