# How do I sync with iCloud cloud storage?

Sync Scriptation files across your iPad, iPhone, and Mac through your existing iCloud account — no extra sign-in required, since you're already logged in via your Apple ID. Cloud Storage is an [Industry Pro](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-is-scriptation-industry-pro-1jfjecg/) feature.

||| ⚠️ HEADS UP: **Only files inside the Scriptation subfolder in iCloud Drive sync across your devices.** Files stored in **On My iPad**, **On My iPhone**, or elsewhere on your Mac (Desktop, Downloads, etc.) only exist on that one device. Move them into iCloud's Scriptation folder to sync.

### iPad / iPhone setup

1. Tap the **File Browser** on the Top Toolbar:

2. Under **Connections**, tap **iCloud**. You're already logged in via your Apple ID — if you're not sure which Apple ID that is, open the Apple **Settings** app to check.

3. [Move or copy your local files](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/moving-or-copying-your-files-to-the-cloud-1i061ug/) into iCloud. This creates automatic backups in case anything happens to your device. **Move** is limited to single files; use **Copy** to relocate multiple files or folders.

### Mac setup

1. Click the **three-bar icon** at the upper left of the screen to open the File Browser;
2. Click **Select File…**

3. A Finder window opens. Navigate to **iCloud → Scriptation** to access the Scriptation documents stored in your iCloud account:

|| 📝 NOTE: If you're prompted to sign in to a "Scriptation account," that's a separate, optional feature tied to AI Voices — it isn't required for iCloud file syncing. ### Free up device space with Remove local file

If your iCloud folder holds a lot of scripts, you can remove the local copy of a file without deleting the cloud original — freeing device storage while keeping the file safe in iCloud.

In the File Browser, find the file inside your iCloud folder, tap the **⋯ menu**, and choose **Remove local file**. Tap the file again anytime to pull it back down.

||| ⚠️ HEADS UP: **Remove local file** is not the same as **Delete**. Remove local file frees device storage while keeping the file in iCloud. **Delete** removes the file from both your device *and* iCloud.

| ✅ TIP: Although iCloud works well, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive offer [version-controlled saving](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-restore-an-earlier-version-of-your-file-with-dropbox-1171koy/) — a new restorable copy after every save — which iCloud doesn't. Worth considering for backup-heavy workflows.
