# I signed up for the free two-week Trial but I was charged

If you started Scriptation's free two-week Trial and noticed a charge from Apple, there are a handful of reasons it can happen — and the good news is that almost all of them are quick to sort out.

|| 📝 NOTE: All Scriptation subscriptions are billed and managed by the **Apple App Store**. Scriptation can't cancel subscriptions or issue refunds on your behalf — both actions need to be done directly with Apple.

### First, check: is it a real charge or a pending hold?

When you start a free Trial, Apple often places a temporary **authorization hold** on your payment method to confirm it's valid. The hold often matches the subscription price but is **not** an actual charge — it should disappear within a few days depending on your bank.

| ✅ TIP: Check whether the line item shows as "pending" in your bank app. If it's pending, it's almost certainly an authorization hold and will release on its own.

### The most common reason for a real charge: your Trial converted to a paid plan

When you start the free two-week Trial, you also choose the subscription that begins the moment the Trial ends — monthly or annual. If the Trial isn't cancelled before the two weeks are up, Apple automatically charges you for the plan you picked. This is how all App Store free trials work.

| 💡 TIP: To see exactly when your Trial converts (or converted), open your device's **Settings**, tap your **Apple ID** at the top, then tap **Subscriptions**. You'll see the start date, renewal date, and price for every active and expiring subscription on your Apple ID.

### Other reasons you might have been charged

###### The free Trial has already been used

App Store free trials are limited to **one per Apple ID**. If you've already used the Scriptation Trial in the past — even on a different device or a previous version of the app — Apple will skip the Trial and charge you immediately when you subscribe.

###### Family Sharing

If a family member on your Family Sharing plan has already used the Scriptation Trial, you won't be eligible for it either, and Apple will charge you right away.

###### Region-specific billing rules

Billing practices like authorization holds and immediate charges can differ between countries because of local banking systems and Apple policy variations.

###### Third-party payment issues

If your Apple ID is paid through a third-party method like PayPal, there can occasionally be a mix-up in how the transaction is processed. If your bank confirms a real charge that doesn't match anything above, check with your payment provider as well.

### How to fix it

###### Step 1: Cancel the subscription so you aren't charged again

Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your access to Scriptation will continue until the end of the period you've already paid for.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the **App Store** app, tap your **profile photo** in the upper-right corner, then tap **Subscriptions**;
2. Under "Active" Subscriptions, tap **Scriptation**;
3. Tap **Cancel Subscription**.

On a Mac, open the **App Store** app, click your **name** in the bottom-left, click **View Information**, scroll down to **Manage** next to "Subscriptions", click **Edit** next to Scriptation, then click **Cancel Subscription**.

###### Step 2: Request a refund from Apple

Apple handles every refund for App Store purchases — including Scriptation subscriptions — through their **Report a Problem** page. Refunds are reviewed and granted at Apple's discretion.

1. Touch or click [**Request a refund**](https://reportaproblem.apple.com) to open Apple's refund page;
2. Sign in with the **Apple ID** that was charged;
3. Find the Scriptation charge in your purchase list and select it;
4. Choose a reason (for example, "I didn't mean to purchase this item") and submit your request.

|| 📝 NOTE: If you need a copy of the receipt to submit alongside your refund request, see [Where can I find my subscription's purchase receipt?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/where-can-i-find-my-subscriptions-purchase-receipt-1gjr1a4/)

### Still having trouble?

A few things to double-check if something doesn't look right:

* **Make sure you're signed into the Apple ID that was charged.** If you have more than one Apple ID, the subscription may live on a different account. See [How do I check which Apple ID is logged into my device?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-check-which-apple-id-is-logged-into-my-device-1qu91lp/);
* **Check your subscription status** to confirm what you're being billed for. See [How do I check my subscription status?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-check-my-subscription-status-cmfh5t/);
* **Confirm the charge is from Scriptation** by locating the Apple receipt in your email (subject line: "Your receipt from Apple"). Receipts list the exact subscription, price, and renewal date.

| 📝 NOTE: If you have more than one Apple ID (for example, one used before switching to a main account), a duplicate subscription can end up billed on the wrong one. Cancel and request a refund on the Apple ID that has the unwanted subscription — the subscription on your main Apple ID stays untouched.

| 📝 NOTE: Accidentally picked the annual plan instead of monthly (or vice versa)? Follow the same two steps above — cancel the current plan, then request a refund for that charge from Apple. Once refunded, you can re-subscribe on the correct plan by reopening Subscriptions in the App Store and selecting it from the list. See [How do I reactivate a cancelled subscription?](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-reactivate-a-cancelled-subscription-hn3a5y/)

If you're still running into issues, please use the **"Send us an email" button at the bottom of this page** and include the date of the charge and the [User ID](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-find-my-ids-for-support-153hpnt/) associated with the subscription so we can help point you in the right direction.
