# Scriptation crashes when using Apple Pencil Pro

If Scriptation crashes, freezes, lags, or drops letters while you're annotating or writing with an **Apple Pencil Pro**, the cause is usually the Pencil's **Hover** feature interfering with the drawing engine. Turning off Hover in iPad Settings is the current workaround.

||| ⚠️ HEADS UP: This is an **Apple-side issue** with how the Pencil Pro's Hover sensor interacts with PDF apps — it isn't something Scriptation can patch on our end. Apple is aware of it, and we'll update this article as soon as an iPadOS update ships the fix. In the meantime, turning off Hover is the reliable workaround.

### How to fix it

1. Open the **Settings** app on your iPad;
2. Tap **Apple Pencil**;
3. Turn off the **Hover** toggle.

That's it — you should be able to annotate in Scriptation without further crashes.

|| 📝 NOTE: This issue is specific to the **Apple Pencil Pro**, which has a built-in hover sensor. Apple Pencil (2nd Generation), USB-C, and 1st Generation Pencils don't have Hover and aren't affected.

### Can't find the Hover setting?

If **Hover** doesn't appear under **Settings → Apple Pencil**, re-pair your Pencil:

1. Go to **Settings → Bluetooth**;
2. Find your Apple Pencil under **My Devices** and tap the **Info** (ⓘ) icon;
3. Tap **Forget This Device**;
4. Re-attach the Pencil to your iPad's magnetic connector and wait for it to pair;
5. Go back to **Settings → Apple Pencil** — the **Hover** toggle should now appear.

| ✅ TIP: Keep iPadOS up to date so you get Apple's fix the moment it ships. Once Hover plays nicely with Scriptation again, we'll update this article to drop the workaround.

### Still crashing?

If crashes continue after turning off Hover, tap the **Send us an email** button at the bottom of this page and include your Pencil model, iPad model, and iPadOS version.
