# What are Info Layers, and how do I use them?

Want to view more of your script's information at a glance? ${color}[#0b81da](**Info Layers**) are here to help.

**Info Layers** save you time by making it easier to navigate your script and can accelerate your script breakdown process.

Imagine you're a script supervisor on set, and the director suddenly asks, "How long is scene A37 from the latest goldenrod revisions sent out earlier this morning?"

With ${color}[#0b81da](**Info Layers**), you're able to quickly generate:

* **Revision Colors** to help you visually scan for the goldenrod pages;
* **Large Scene Numbers** and **Scene Dividers** to make scene A37 visible from a bird's-eye view; and
* **8th Page Counts** and **Dialogue Numbers** to give you the answer in *two* different measurements.

With the information at your fingertips, you can swiftly provide the answer in less than 5 seconds.

|| 📝 NOTE: Info Layers are an [Industry Pro](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-is-scriptation-industry-pro-1jfjecg/) feature, and they were introduced in Scriptation 5.1, which requires iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13 or later. If your device can't be updated past those versions, you won't be able to access Info Layers even with an active Industry Pro subscription. See our [Current Version and System Requirements](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/current-version-and-system-requirements-1yryfi7/) page for details.

#### How to Turn on Info Layers

With your script already open, tap **Layers** on the Top Toolbar.

| ✅ TIP: If the **Layers** icon isn't showing in the Top Toolbar, touch or click the plus sign on the right side to show additional icons. To pin it permanently, see [Customizing the Top Toolbar](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/more-icons-and-customizing-the-top-toolbar-v1u97a/).

In the Layers side panel and underneath the **My Layers** section, you'll find the **Info Layers** section. There are 5 different Info Layers available, each with their own toggle. Toggling one on automatically generates that layer's information as annotations in your script.

The five **Info Layers** are — each with its own dedicated article covering turn-on steps and customization:

* [**Revision Colors**](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-add-revision-colors-to-my-script-c9l9k1/) — Adds the revision colors to your script based on the color notated on each page's header;
* [**Large Scene Numbers**](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-make-scene-numbers-bigger-xym5la/) — Finds each scene header and places a larger scene number over the left-side number;
* [**Scene Dividers**](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-add-scene-dividers-to-my-script-qq8gow/) — Places a line at the beginning of each scene to visually separate it from the next;
* [**8th Page Counts**](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-add-page-counts-to-my-script-3jt60r/) — Measures every scene in eighths of a page and adds the length to either the top or bottom of each scene;
* [**Dialogue Numbers**](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-add-dialogue-numbering-to-my-script-1hxs1xp/) — Counts the total number of dialogue lines and places the corresponding number or letter next to each one.

##### Saving Your Info Layers Settings

Every time you exit the Layers settings menu after customizing the appearance of an Info Layer, you'll be prompted whether to sync those changes. Doing so will apply your customizations to your active Info Layers.

![Sync Dialogue and Icon](https://storage.crisp.chat/users/helpdesk/website/-/6/0/8/1/60818aeea8717000/layersinfolayerssync_b6wynb.webp =480x302)

| ✅ TIP: If your Info Layers settings are ever out of sync, a blue triangle with an exclamation mark, ⚠️, will appear next to Info Layers in your Layers sidebar. Tap it anytime to sync your settings.

| 📝 NOTE: Changing an Info Layer's appearance settings triggers Scriptation to regenerate that layer, with the most recently regenerated annotations appearing in front of others. If you notice two Info Layers overlapping (for example, a Scene Divider hidden behind a Large Scene Number), simply adjust that layer's appearance settings and sync again to bring it back to the front.

#### Including Info Layers in a PDF export

Scriptation hides an Info Layer's annotations instead of deleting them when its toggle is turned off, but a standard PDF export still includes **all** layers, hidden or not. To leave an Info Layer's annotations out of an exported PDF (or to include only specific layers), you'll need to use the [Export PDF by layer](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-export-share-my-script-with-just-one-layer-qcnb39/) option instead of a standard export, and [duplicate](/en/article/how-do-i-edit-info-layers-like-dialogue-numbers-bg4pcm/) any Info Layer you want to selectively include or exclude, since only duplicated (editable) layers can be individually chosen for this type of export.

| 📝 NOTE: Currently, once an Info Layer's toggle has been turned on and it's been generated at least once, there's no way to turn it off entirely so that it never appears again — toggling it off only hides it, but a standard export will still include it. If you need to fully remove an Info Layer's annotations going forward, the current workaround is to transfer all your notes into a fresh, blank copy of the same script and revision, then avoid turning that Info Layer on again in the new copy.

#### Need to edit an Info Layer?

Info Layers are regenerated automatically when your script changes — so they aren't editable by default. To edit one, you'll duplicate it first to create an editable copy. See
[How do I edit Info Layers?](/en/article/how-do-i-edit-info-layers-like-dialogue-numbers-bg4pcm/) for the full walkthrough.

| 📝 NOTE: Because Info Layers regenerate with each new script revision, they aren't transferable to a new draft by default. If you need to carry an Info Layer's annotations forward, duplicate it first — this converts it into a regular, editable Layer that can be transferred like any other.
