# What happens if I take a break from my subscription?

If you cancel or pause your Scriptation Industry Pro subscription, your **local files stay on your device**, your **cloud files remain in their cloud folders** (but Scriptation can't sync them until you resubscribe), and **all Pro features lock** until you reactivate. When you come back, your files sync to their most-current state and everything picks up where you left off.

Here's a full rundown of what happens during a break.

If you are an Industry Pro user, we understand there are times you might want to take a break from your monthly subscription by [unsubscribing](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-cancel-or-unsubscribe-from-industry-pro-e82nqs/) in the App Store.

|| 📝 NOTE: It is not possible to "pause" a one-year subscription.

### 1. Access to Files

All **local** files (listed under the heading On My iPad or On My iPhone) remain on the device, and can continue to be accessed from within Scriptation during a break in subscription service.

All **cloud** files remain in their cloud folders, and can *not* be accessed from within Scriptation during a break.

| ✅ TIP: Consider [copying](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/moving-or-copying-your-files-to-the-cloud-1i061ug/) cloud folders to your local directory before your subscription date ends. But keep in mind — without Pro — files will not sync back to the cloud provider.

On iPad or iPhone, cloud files can also be accessed directly from the cloud providers' apps. Files can be downloaded to your device, and [imported](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/importing-scripts-into-scriptation-k34r8d/) into Scriptation as a local file.

On Mac, since the cloud providers are accessed through the Finder, you won't notice any difference in access during a break.

||| ⚠️ HEADS UP: If during a break, Scriptation files are opened in other PDF apps (e.g. Apple Preview), results may vary. Layers, Page Manager pages, and Annotations are not universal, and there could be compatibility issues viewing the files. Additionally, if changes are saved into PDF files from other apps, there is likely to be further compatibility issues when the file is imported back into Scriptation again.

### 2. Pro Features

Be aware that during a break, the entire app reverts to the standard feature set, and all [Industry Pro Features](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-is-scriptation-industry-pro-1jfjecg/) become locked.

For example: Your personal [Saved Annotations](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/what-are-saved-annotations-and-how-do-i-use-them-1rerp7z/) will not be accessible, Layers will revert to single layer view, and Note Transfer will no longer allow for [Collate Pages](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-transfer-notes-to-a-new-set-of-pages-collate-1q0eev9/) or [Compare Scripts](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-do-i-use-compare-scripts-c6e3pc/).

##### Coming Back to Scriptation

Whenever you are ready to come back, it's easy to [reactivate your subscription](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/want-to-resubscribe-how-to-reactivate-a-cancelled-subscription-hn3a5y/).

When you set up [Cloud Storage](https://help.scriptation.com/en/article/how-to-sync-files-across-devices-with-cloud-storage-rj94v/) again, your devices will immediately sync with whatever the most current version of the cloud folders are. If files changed during the subscription break period, the device will sync to the most current state of the entire folder.
