Scriptation crashes when using Apple Pencil Pro

Scriptation crashes when annotating with Apple Pencil Pro

Some users with an Apple Pencil Pro may experience crashes while annotating in Scriptation. This is caused by a bug related to the Pencil's Hover feature, which can interfere with the app's drawing engine. We're actively working to resolve this, and a fix is expected in an upcoming update.

In the meantime, turning off Hover in your iPad's settings should resolve the issue.

How to Fix It

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad;
  2. Tap Apple Pencil;
  3. Turn off the Hover toggle.

That's it! You should be able to annotate in Scriptation without further crashes.

📝 NOTE: This issue only affects the Apple Pencil Pro, which has a built-in hover sensor. If you're using an Apple Pencil 1st or 2nd generation, your crashes are likely caused by something else — see Scriptation is running slowly or crashing for general troubleshooting steps.

Can't find the Hover setting?

If the Hover option doesn't appear under Settings → Apple Pencil, try disconnecting and reconnecting your Pencil:

  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth;
  2. Find your Apple Pencil under My Devices and tap the Info icon;
  3. Tap Forget This Device;
  4. Re-attach the Pencil to the magnetic connector on your iPad and wait for it to pair;
  5. Go back to Settings → Apple Pencil — the Hover toggle should now appear.

✅ TIP: If you're still experiencing crashes after turning off Hover, try restarting your iPad and make sure both Scriptation and iPadOS are updated to the latest version.

If you're still having an issue, please contact us using the email button below and include your iPad model and iPadOS version so we can investigate further.
