How do I choose what Auto-Highlight highlights?

By default, Auto-Highlight colors both a character's name and their dialogue. With Industry Pro, you can change the highlight format and highlight additional script elements.

📝 NOTE: The free version of Scriptation highlights Name and Dialogue (both). Changing the highlight format and highlighting Scene Headings and Action Lines are Scriptation Industry Pro features.

Choosing the Highlight Format

You can highlight Name and Dialogue (the default), Name Only, or Dialogue Only.

In Scriptation 6.0 and later

  1. Tap Highlight on the Top Toolbar to open the Auto-Highlight sidebar;
  2. Tap the three-dot menu () at the top-right of the sidebar and choose Settings;
  3. Select the format you want — Name and Dialogue, Name Only, or Dialogue Only.

In Scriptation 5.1.16 and earlier

The same three options live at the bottom of the Auto-Highlight sidebar — tap the option you want to apply.

Highlighting Scene Headings and Action Lines

Beyond character names and dialogue, Industry Pro lets you auto-highlight Scene Headings and Action Lines — useful for cinematographers, script supervisors, and ADs who track those elements during prep. In the Auto-Highlight sidebar, Scene Headings and Action Lines appear as their own rows; tap the color dot to assign a color and toggle them on, just like a character.
