How do I save colors for characters with Auto-Highlight?

Saved Colors lets you save a character's Auto-Highlight color so it sticks with that character across every script you open. Once you save a color for "Sarah," every future script with a character named Sarah will use that same color automatically. Perfect for recurring characters on TV series or any character who appears in multiple drafts.

📝 NOTE: Auto-Highlight customization features — including Saved Colors — are part of Scriptation Industry Pro.

✅ TIP: Saved Colors is different from Custom Colors. Custom Colors are a temporary one-off picker for a single script — when you turn the highlight off, the custom color resets. Saved Colors persist the color assignment for that character across every script you open.

Saving a Character's Color

  1. Open your script and tap the Highlight icon on the Top Toolbar to open the Auto-Highlight sidebar;
  2. Assign each character the color you want (using the color presets or a custom color);
  3. Tap the Save icon at the top-left of the sidebar;

  1. Deselect any characters you don't need saved, then tap OK at the top-right to confirm.

From now on, any character you've assigned a color will be associated with that color across all your scripts on this device.

📝 NOTE: Saved Colors are stored per device. If you work across iPad, iPhone, and Mac, you'll want to set up your saved colors on each device.

Removing a Saved Color

To remove a saved color assignment from a character:

  1. In the Auto-Highlight sidebar, tap the three-dot menu () at the top-right;
  2. Choose Delete;

  1. Tap the red circle to the left of the character's name, then the red square to confirm;
  2. Tap OK to return to the sidebar.
