How do I auto-scroll through my script?
📝 NOTE: This article describes auto-scrolling in Scriptation 6.0 and later, where it's part of Playback Mode. In 5.1.16 or earlier, auto-scrolling lives within Read Mode — see What is Read Mode? for the walkthrough.
If you want your script to scroll on its own — no voices, no audio, just hands-free reading — you can use Playback Mode with the View Only preset. Useful for silent run-throughs, memorization passes, or any time you just want the page to keep moving while your hands are elsewhere.
Setting Up Hands-Free Scrolling
- Open your script;
- Touch or click the Playback icon on the Top Toolbar to enter Playback Mode;

- Touch the sliders icon on the control bar to open the Playback Presets popover, and choose View Only. This turns off all audio while still scrolling the script as if it were being read aloud. See What are Playback Presets? for more on each preset;
- (Optional) Touch the gear icon in the top-right to open Playback Settings and adjust Font type and Font size under Display for comfortable distance reading;
- Press Play to start. The script scrolls silently on its own;
- Adjust the scroll speed at any time using the speed slider above the play icon — sliding left slows the scroll, sliding right speeds it up. This is the same control that sets readback speed in audio presets;
- Press Pause to stop the scroll, or press it again to resume.
