How do I save and reuse character voices across scripts?

📝 NOTE: This article describes the save voices workflow in Scriptation 6.0 and later, where voices are saved from the Playback Mode Voices panel. If you're on 5.1.16 or earlier, voices are saved from the Voices sidebar within Read, Rehearse, or Record Mode — see What is Rehearse Mode? for the walkthrough.

Once you've assigned voices to the characters in your script, you can save those assignments so they're ready to apply the next time you open a script with the same characters. Useful for TV shows with recurring characters, franchise films, or any time you don't want to reassign the same voices from scratch.

📝 NOTE: Saved Voices is an Industry Pro feature.

✅ TIP: Saved Voices works the same way for AI Voices and your device's built-in basic voices — same save flow, same reuse flow.

Saving Your Voices

  1. With your Voices panel open, touch or click the three-dot menu () in the top-right corner;

  1. Choose Save voices. The Save Voices view opens with a list of every character;

  1. By default, every character with a voice currently assigned is checked. Uncheck any you don't want to save;
  2. Touch Save to save your selections.

Scriptation will match saved voices to characters by name, so the next time you open a script that includes any of these characters, their saved voice is applied automatically.

Reviewing and Editing Saved Voices

To view, edit, or delete your saved voices, open the main Playback Settings and go to PlaybackSaved Voices. The Saved Voices page groups your voices into Current Script and Other Characters sections.

📝 NOTE: The main Playback Settings is the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Playback window — not the gear inside a character's voice page (which only adjusts that character's Speaking Rate and Volume).

To open any voice and adjust its settings, touch the character's name. Use the back caret (<) to return to the Saved Voices list when you're done.

Syncing Updates to Saved Voices

If you change a character's voice settings in a script after they've been saved, Scriptation flags the saved version as out of sync.

A blue triangle appears next to characters whose current settings don't match their saved settings. To update the saved version with your current settings, touch the Sync icon next to the voice name in the Voices list (or at the top-left of the character's voice selection page).

Deleting a Saved Voice

  1. Open Saved Voices (Playback SettingsPlaybackSaved Voices);
  2. Touch the three-dot menu () at the upper right and choose Delete;
  3. Touch the red circle to the left of the voice you want to delete, then touch the red Delete button to confirm;
  4. Touch OK to return to the Saved Voices panel.
