Can I add my own categories in Tagging?

Yes! Scriptation lets you add your own custom Tagging categories on top of the industry-standard ones, and rename, reorder, or delete them as needed.

📝 NOTE: Tagging is an Industry Pro feature.

📝 NOTE: Tagging customizations are stored per device. To use the same set on multiple devices, see How do I share Tagging Customizations with other devices?.

✅ TIP: Want to clean up the Category Picker without deleting anything? See Can I hide categories I don't use in Tagging? — hiding is non-destructive and works on both default and custom categories.

Opening Tagging Customization

In 6.0, two paths lead to the same place — the Tagging tab in Settings. Pick whichever is easier from where you are:

  • Tap the three-dot menu () at the top-right of the screen, select Settings, and go to the Tagging tab;
  • Or, enter Tagging Mode from the Top Toolbar and tap Customize — this also opens the Settings modal at the Tagging tab.

Adding a Custom Category

  1. Tap Add new category at the top;

  1. Enter a name and tap Save.

Your new category appears at the bottom of the Visible section and is immediately available in the Tagging Category Picker.

✅ TIP: To change a new category's color, see How to change category colors for Tagging.

Reordering Categories

Drag any category by the handle (the three-line icon on the right of the row) to move it up or down the list.

Renaming or Deleting Custom Categories

Renaming and deleting both require Edit mode.

  1. Tap Edit at the top-right of the category list;
  2. From Edit mode, you can:
  • Rename a custom category — tap the name to edit the text;
  • Delete a custom category — tap the red dot to the left of the name and confirm;
  1. Tap Done at the top-right when you're finished.

📝 NOTE: Default categories can be recolored and reordered, but they can't be renamed or deleted. Only custom categories you've added can be renamed or deleted. To remove a default category from the Category Picker, hide it instead.

📝 NOTE: If you delete a custom category that already has tags in your script, those tags will remain on the page and will still appear in reports.
