How do I use Siri to dictate notes?

On iOS and Mac, Apple's Siri can turn your voice into text inside Scriptation's Text Boxes, Notes, and Attached Notes.

How Siri dictation works in Scriptation

Any time you're in a text-entry field in Scriptation (a Text Box, a Note, or an Attached Note), the keyboard that appears has a microphone icon. Tap it, speak, and Siri transcribes your speech into the field. Touch or click Done to finish.

📝 NOTE for Mac users: To access dictation, place your cursor in the text field, go to the Edit menu at the top of the screen, and choose Start Dictation. The keyboard shortcut is fn-fn (press the fn key twice).

📝 NOTE: If this is your first time using Siri with Scriptation, allow access to your microphone when prompted.

The sections below cover how to open each annotation type so you can start dictating.

Using Siri with a Text Box

On the Annotation Toolbar, touch or click the Text icon.

Then touch or click the spot in your script where you'd like the text. On the keyboard that appears, touch or click the microphone icon.

With Siri listening, speak and your notes are transcribed. Touch or click Done to place the text, then touch or click elsewhere to finish the annotation.

Touch or click the text annotation to bring up the palette:

Resize with a drag handle, or angle it with the rotation handle;
Cut / Copy the annotation to the Clipboard;
Select More… to add other annotations to the selection;
Edit the text;
Style Palette for font, size, and color changes;
Save to make it a Saved Annotation;
Layer to move or copy it to another layer;
Tag to tag it to a category;
Trash to delete it.

Using Siri with Notes

On the Annotation Toolbar, touch or click the Note icon, then touch or click where you'd like to place the note. A sticky note appears on your script.

Touch or click the sticky note to open it. On the keyboard that appears, touch or click the microphone icon, speak, and touch or click Done to save.

Using Siri for Attached Notes

Touch or click any existing annotation (a highlight, drawing, shape, or stamp) to bring up its palette, then select the Note icon.

On the keyboard that appears, touch or click the microphone icon, speak, and touch or click Done. Your dictation is saved as an Attached Note that stays with the original annotation.
