How do I use Scribble on iPad?

Scriptation is fully compatible with Scribble, Apple's handwriting-to-text tool — so you can write with your Apple Pencil in any text field on iPad and have it convert to typed text.

📝 NOTE: This video shows a slightly older user interface, but the instructions are still accurate.

You can write in any text field, such as Text Boxes and Notes, and the writing converts to typed text.

📝 NOTE: Scribble is exclusively available on iPad and is designed for use with the Apple Pencil.

Enabling Scribble

If it's not already on, go to the Settings menu, open Apple Pencil, and toggle Scribble on.

Using Scribble in text boxes

With Scribble enabled, create a Text Box and write directly into the text field.

Using Scribble in Notes

Scribble also works with Notes.

The Scribble toolbar

When you tap your Apple Pencil into a text field, the Scribble toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen.

With this toolbar you can:

  • Undo or redo actions;
  • Display the mini-keyboard;
  • Reduce or enlarge the text (tap the Paragraph icon to show or hide the sizing icons);
  • Turn on dictation;
  • Insert a line break.
