My keyboard is tiny. Help!

If your iPad keyboard suddenly shrunk to a small floating version, it's an iPadOS feature — and there are two ways to fix it.

Fastest fix: pinch out to expand

Place two fingers on the floating keyboard and pinch outward (the opposite of a pinch-to-zoom). The keyboard will snap back to full size and dock to the bottom of the screen.

💡 TIP: You can also press and hold the small grab bar at the bottom of the floating keyboard, then drag it down to the bottom edge of your iPad. It'll lock back into the full-size keyboard.

Prevent it from happening again

The floating keyboard appears when you accidentally pinch the full keyboard inward — usually while typing. To turn this off:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad;
  2. Tap General → Keyboard;
  3. Toggle off Slide on Floating Keyboard to Type.

📝 NOTE: This setting only exists on iPad. iPhone doesn't have a floating keyboard.
