Where did my lines and notes go after generating Lining?

After generating Lining, two things commonly look like missing content — but they're not. Your other notes are simply hidden in the background, and any tramlines you don't see might be on a different Lining Layer.

📝 NOTE: Lining Tools is an Industry Pro feature.

"Where did my other notes go?"

When you generate Lining, Scriptation creates a new layer called Lining and makes it your active layer. Your other layers are still there — they're just hidden in the background.

  1. Tap the Layers icon on the Top Toolbar.

  1. Each regular layer row has two icons that show its state:

  • Pencil icon — marks your active layer (the one you're currently annotating on). Right after generating Lining, this is on the Lining layer;
  • Eye icon — shows or hides the layer on the page. An open eye means the layer is visible; a closed eye means it's hidden.

To bring your other notes back:

  • To make a different layer active, tap directly on its name. The Pencil icon moves to that layer;
  • To view a regular layer in the background without making it active, tap its closed eye icon to open it.

✅ TIP: Want your other notes to export with your tramlines? See How do I merge layers into Lining?.

"Where did my tramlines go?"

If you can't see tramlines you expected, they're almost certainly on a different Lining Layer.

When a page runs out of room for additional slates, Scriptation automatically creates the next layer — Lining 2, then Lining 3, and so on — and continues your work there. Your earlier tramlines aren't lost; they're in the previous Lining Layer.

📝 NOTE: You can only have one Lining Layer visible at a time. Switching between Lining Layers means tapping a different one to activate it — there's no eye icon to toggle multiple Lining Layers on at once.

To find them:

  1. Open the Layers menu;
  2. Look for any layers named Lining, Lining 2, Lining 3, etc.;
  3. Tap the layer name to make it the active layer. The Pencil icon moves to whichever Lining Layer is currently active, and that's the one you'll see on the page.

📝 NOTE: A new Lining Layer is only created when a page runs out of room. Generating tramlines on a different scene doesn't, by itself, create a new layer.

Still don't see your lines or notes?

If you've checked every Lining Layer and your tramlines or notes are genuinely missing, send us a message with:

  1. The device and OS version you're using;
  2. The Scriptation version you're on;
  3. A short description of when the content went missing.
