How do I import shared lining layers?

When you receive a Lining Layer file (.slf) from a collaborator, importing it into your own script is easy.

📝 NOTE: Lining Tools is an Industry Pro feature.

📝 NOTE: This video shows a slightly older user interface but the instructions are still accurate.

✅ TIP: Importing Lining only applies to scenes that don't already have lining in the target script. If you're collaborating with another script supervisor, see Can multiple script supervisors line the same script? for the recommended workflow.

Importing on iPad / iPhone

When you receive a .slf file, tap the attachment.

Tap the Open icon, then tap Scriptation.

📝 NOTE: If you don't see Scriptation as an option, you may want to add Scriptation as an iOS Favorite App. For now, swipe right and tap More to find Scriptation in the complete list of apps.

You'll be prompted to select the file to import the layer into. Scriptation highlights the appropriate file in yellow.

The lining is now imported. You'll see the lining notes in your Layers menu.

📝 NOTE: If importing into a script that already had lining layers (Lining, Lining 2, Lining 3, etc.), the imported notes and facing pages are merged into those layers as appropriate.

Importing on Mac

Start in Scriptation by opening the script file that will receive the imported layer.

From the email containing the shared layer, download the attached .slf file.

From your download location, two-finger click the .slf file. Click Open With, then select Scriptation.

You'll be prompted to select the file to import the layer into.

The layer is now imported. You'll see the lining notes in your Layers menu.

📝 NOTE: If importing into a script that already had lining layers (Lining, Lining 2, Lining 3, etc.), the imported notes and facing pages are merged into those layers as appropriate.
