I signed up for the free two-week Trial but I was charged
If you started Scriptation's free two-week Trial and noticed a charge from Apple, there are a handful of reasons it can happen — and the good news is that almost all of them are quick to sort out.
The most common reason: your Trial converted to a paid plan
When you start the free two-week Trial, you also choose the subscription that begins the moment the Trial ends — either monthly or annual. If the Trial isn't cancelled before the two weeks are up, Apple automatically charges you for the plan you picked. This is how all App Store free trials work.
Other reasons you might have been charged
The free Trial has already been used
App Store free trials are limited to one per Apple ID. If you've already taken advantage of the Scriptation Trial in the past — even on a different device or a previous version of the app — Apple will skip the Trial and charge you immediately when you subscribe.
Family Sharing
If a family member on your Family Sharing plan has already used the Scriptation Trial, you won't be eligible for it either, and Apple will charge you right away.
A pending authorization hold
When you start a free Trial, Apple may place a temporary authorization hold on your payment method to confirm it's valid. The hold often matches the subscription price but is not an actual charge — it should disappear within a few days depending on your bank. If you're not sure, check with your bank to see whether the amount is still pending or has already been released.
Region-specific billing rules
Billing practices like authorization holds and immediate charges can differ between countries because of local banking systems and Apple policy variations.
Third-party payment issues
If your Apple ID is paid through a third-party method like PayPal, there can occasionally be a mix-up in how the transaction is processed. If your bank confirms a real charge that doesn't match anything above, please check with your payment provider as well.
How to fix it
Step 1: Cancel the subscription so you aren't charged again
Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your access to Scriptation will continue until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store app, tap your Profile Photo in the upper-right corner, then tap Subscriptions;
- Under "Active" Subscriptions, tap Scriptation;
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
On a Mac, open the App Store app, click your Name in the bottom-left, click View Information, scroll down to Manage next to "Subscriptions", click Edit next to Scriptation, then click Cancel Subscription.
Step 2: Request a refund from Apple
Apple handles every refund for App Store purchases — including Scriptation subscriptions — through their Report a Problem page. Refunds are reviewed and granted at Apple's discretion.
- Touch or click Request a refund to open Apple's instructions;
- Sign in with the Apple ID that was charged;
- Find the Scriptation charge in your purchase list and select it;
- Choose a reason (for example, "I didn't mean to purchase this item") and submit your request.
Still having trouble?
A few things to double-check if something doesn't look right:
- Make sure you're signed into the Apple ID that was charged. If you have more than one Apple ID, the subscription may live on a different account. See How do I check which Apple ID is logged into my device?;
- Check your subscription status to confirm what you're being billed for and on which device. See How do I check my subscription status?;
- Confirm the charge is from Scriptation by locating the Apple receipt in your email (subject line: "Your receipt from Apple"). Receipts list the exact subscription, price, and renewal date.
If you're still running into issues, please contact us using the email button below and include the date of the charge and the Apple ID associated with the subscription so we can help point you in the right direction.
