Scriptation keeps crashing on launch (iPad or iPhone)

If Scriptation crashes the moment it launches, the most likely fix is toggling on Restart processes on the next launch in your iOS Settings — start there. The other steps below cover the rarer causes if that doesn't do it.

⚠️ HEADS UP: Do not delete and reinstall Scriptation to fix performance issues. Reinstalling on iPad or iPhone removes every file saved in On My iPad / On My iPhone permanently — the only way to potentially recover these files is to restore your entire device from an iCloud backup. If none of the steps below resolve the issue, contact us first using the Send us an email button at the bottom of this page.

1. Reset Scriptation's launch processes (iPadOS / iOS)

This is the most common fix for a crash-on-launch. It tells iOS to spin up Scriptation's background processes cleanly on the next open.

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.

  1. Scroll the side menu all the way down. Depending on your iOS version, you'll either see Scriptation in the apps list directly, or you'll need to tap Apps first, then find Scriptation.
  2. Tap Scriptation, then toggle on Restart processes on the next launch.

  1. Relaunch Scriptation. The toggle resolves the issue for most users on the first try.

2. Force-quit and relaunch

If step 1 didn't help, swipe Scriptation away from the App Switcher, then reopen it. A fresh launch clears transient issues.

3. Restart your device

Power your iPad or iPhone fully off, then back on. When it restarts, leave other apps closed and try Scriptation on its own.

4. Check for a Scriptation update

Open the App Store on your device and install any available update — we ship fixes frequently. Make sure Automatic App Updates is on so you stay current.

Send us a crash report

If Scriptation keeps crashing on launch after the steps above, please email us using the Send us an email button at the bottom of this page and include:

  • Device model and iOS version;
  • The version of Scriptation you're running;
  • Whether the crash happens cold (after a device restart) or only sometimes;
  • Where your scripts live (iCloud, Dropbox, On My iPad, etc.).

📝 NOTE: iOS keeps crash logs we can read. To grab them: open the Settings app on your device → Privacy & SecurityAnalytics & ImprovementsAnalytics Data, find entries that start with Scriptation-, and attach the most recent one to your email. They speed up our debugging significantly.

If you can capture the crash on video — using a screen recording on iPad, iPhone, or Mac — please include it too. See How can I share my file with Scriptation's Support team? for upload options.
