Should I Delete and Reinstall Scriptation?

The answer is almost always no. Reinstalling Scriptation is destructive on iPad and iPhone — it deletes every locally stored file — and it rarely fixes the issue that prompted the question. Try the safer steps below first.

⚠️ HEADS UP: Deleting Scriptation on an iPad or iPhone removes all locally stored files from the device. Anything in On My iPad or On My iPhone that isn't backed up to iCloud (or another cloud service) will be lost permanently.

Why reinstalling usually isn't the fix

Most "Scriptation won't open" or "the app is acting strangely" problems come from a temporary memory hiccup, an out-of-date app version, or a glitch that a quick reset clears. Reinstalling is a much bigger hammer — and in Scriptation 6.0, it also means signing back into your account and reconnecting every cloud service.

Try these steps first

  1. Force-quit Scriptation and reopen it.
  2. Restart your device. Power it fully off, then back on.
  3. Reset Scriptation's launch processes (iPad / iPhone):
  • Open the Settings app on your device.
  • Scroll the side menu down to Apps and tap Scriptation.
  • Toggle on the options under Troubleshooting (including Restart processes on the next launch), then reopen Scriptation.

  1. Update Scriptation to the latest version via the App Store.

If you're still stuck after those four steps, see Scriptation keeps crashing on launch or Scriptation is running slowly or crashing for deeper troubleshooting — both stop short of reinstalling.

What you'll lose / need to redo if you reinstall

If Support recommends a reinstall — or you've genuinely exhausted every other option — here's what changes in Scriptation 6.0:

  • Cloud connections must be re-linked. Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive each need to be re-authorized after reinstalling. Your files in those services stay safe — but Scriptation will need permission to reach them again.
  • iCloud Drive files are safe — they live in your iCloud, not in the app, so they reappear once the app reconnects.
  • On My iPad / iPhone files will be lost unless they're already backed up to iCloud or another cloud service. Copy them out before you delete.

If you really do need to reinstall

  1. Back up your local files first. Move (or copy) anything in On My iPad or On My iPhone to iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. Confirm the files are actually present in the cloud before continuing.
  2. Note your cloud connections. Make a list of which services you have linked (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive) so you can re-link them after.
  3. Delete the app from your device.
  4. Reinstall from the App Store.
  5. Sign back into your Scriptation account.
  6. Re-link your cloud services from the Scriptation Settings menu.
  7. Verify your files reappear in the File Browser.

✅ TIP: If you're not sure whether your local files are backed up, don't delete the app yet. Reach out to Support first — we'd rather help you preserve your work than have it lost in a reinstall.
