How often do files upload / sync to cloud?

Scriptation syncs your files to the cloud automatically — but the exact timing differs between iPad/iPhone and Mac.

Using cloud storage is the best way to get the most out of Scriptation. If you're an Industry Pro user and haven't set it up yet, syncing to the cloud takes just a moment.

iPad / iPhone

📝 NOTE: There's a difference between saving and syncing. On iOS, Scriptation automatically saves locally to your device after every single annotation.

Scriptation auto-syncs to the cloud:

  • Every time you change tabs;
  • Every time you close the document.

In the unlikely event of an iOS crash, any annotations that hadn't yet synced to the cloud will still be on your device when you reopen the file.

Mac

📝 NOTE: There's a difference between saving and syncing. On Mac, Scriptation auto-saves locally every 5 minutes, or after major actions like switching tabs.

A file syncs to the cloud whenever you save it manually — via File → Save or the keyboard shortcut ⌘ + S:

In the unlikely event of a macOS crash, any annotations made before the last auto-save will still be on your device.

What about conflicted copies?

While it's always best to work in a file on one device at a time, sometimes files end up open on multiple devices. Scriptation alerts one device when changes have been synced from another:

If two devices find themselves in conflict — perhaps from a connectivity issue — a conflicted copy is created. No data is deleted; you just end up with two files. To combine them, copy and paste the annotations from one into the other.
