How do I include dialogue numbering (and other info layers) in my Editor Exports?
Info Layers — like Dialogue Numbers, 8th Page Counts, Large Scene Numbers, Scene Dividers, and Revision Colors — are auto-generated and aren't included in Editor Exports by default. To get them into your export for post, you need to duplicate the Info Layer (which makes it editable) and merge that copy into your first Lining layer.
Why Info Layers aren't in Editor Exports by default
Info Layers regenerate automatically when your script changes — so their annotations aren't "real" until you make them editable. Editor Export only exports content inside Lining layers (Lining, Lining 2, etc.). To include Info Layer content in an export, the Info Layer first has to become an editable layer, then get merged into a Lining layer.
Step-by-step
- Tap Layers on the Top Toolbar.

- Under the Info Layers section, find the layer you want (for example, Dialogue Numbers). Next to it is a boxed plus icon, [ + ]. Tap it. When prompted with "Copy Info Layer," tap Yes.

The duplicated Info Layer now appears under My Layers as your active layer, and the auto-generated version is toggled off. The duplicate is editable like any other layer.
- Merge the duplicate into your first Lining layer. Follow the steps in How do I merge layers into Lining?
- Run your Editor Export normally. The Info Layer content is now part of your Lining layer, so it'll appear in the export.
If dialogue numbers still aren't showing up after merging
If you've duplicated the Dialogue Numbers Info Layer, merged it into your Lining layer, and run your Editor Export, but the numbers still don't appear in the exported file, this usually points to something not quite clicking in the merge or export steps rather than a setting you're missing. If this happens to you:
- Confirm your Scriptation version (How to check your current version).
- Record a short screen recording showing (1) how you're duplicating and merging the Dialogue Numbers layer, and (2) how you're running the Editor Export.
- Submit the recording along with your device, OS, and app version through the Troubleshooting Portal so the team can pinpoint where the numbers are dropping out.
Doing this for multiple Info Layers
You can repeat the duplicate-and-merge workflow for any of the 5 Info Layers:
- Dialogue Numbers — line numbers next to each dialogue line;
- 8th Page Counts — scene length in eighths of a page;
- Large Scene Numbers — oversized scene numbers for quick reference;
- Scene Dividers — visual separators between scenes;
- Revision Colors — color blocks for revision pages.
Each one becomes part of your Editor Export once it's been duplicated and merged into a Lining layer.
Known limitation
Dialogue numbering is generated as an Info Layer, so it doesn't re-evaluate itself after multiple script revisions once it's been merged into a Lining layer — the merged numbers behave like regular annotations and won't renumber automatically as pages change. There's currently no way to apply dialogue numbering on a per-scene basis (e.g. only for scenes you're actively shooting); this and full editor-export support for dialogue numbers are both requests the team is aware of and considering for future improvements to the export workflow.
