How do I take a screenshot or screen recording?

To take a screenshot, press the top button and volume up button together on iPad or iPhone (or Shift + Command + 3 on Mac); to record your screen, use Screen Recording in Control Center on iPad or iPhone, or press Shift + Command + 5 on Mac.

iPad or iPhone with Face ID: Press the top button and volume up button at the same time, then release.
iPad or iPhone with a Home button: Press the top (or side) button and the Home button at the same time, then release.
Mac: Press Shift + Command + 3 (whole screen) or Shift + Command + 4 (drag to select an area).

Record your screen

Screen recordings are best when the issue plays out over time — a crash sequence, a tap that triggers unexpected behavior, or anything that's easier to show than to describe.

iPad or iPhone: Open Control Center and tap the Screen Recording button (●), wait for the three-second countdown, and capture what you need. Tap the red status indicator (or the button again) to stop. The recording saves to your Photos app. If the button isn't there, touch and hold an empty spot in Control Center, tap Add a Control, and add Screen Recording.
Mac: Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot toolbar. Choose Record Entire Screen or Record Selected Portion, then click Record. Click the Stop button in the menu bar when you're done.
