Welcome to Scriptation for Mac

Scriptation for Mac is the same app you know from iPad and iPhone, with most of the same features — but a few macOS conventions work differently. Here's a quick orientation, plus links to the most-asked-about topics.

Three things that work differently on Mac

1. Files are stored in macOS — not in the app itself.

On iPad and iPhone, Scriptation has its own internal storage ("On My iPad / On My iPhone") where files live. On Mac, Scriptation doesn't store files itself — it opens files from wherever they already exist on your hard drive or in cloud folders. When you save in Scriptation, the file stays in the same location it came from. Delete a file from its saved location, and it's gone from Scriptation too. For the full mental model and the gotchas it creates, see Where are my files stored? (Mac).

2. Trackpad and mouse instead of touch.

On iPad, you tap annotations with your finger or Apple Pencil. On Mac, you use the trackpad or mouse — click to select, right-click (or two-finger trackpad press) for context menus, click-and-drag to move. See How do I select annotations on Mac? for the full set of trackpad and mouse interactions.

3. Mac conventions: menu bar and keyboard shortcuts.

Scriptation for Mac follows standard macOS conventions. The menu bar at the top of your screen (Scriptation, File, Edit, View, Window, Help) gives you menu access to common actions, and standard keyboard shortcuts like ⌘O to open, ⌘S to save, and ⌘F to search work as expected. Settings is reachable two ways: the three-dot menu (⋯) at the top right of the app (same as iPad), or Scriptation > Settings in the menu bar.
