What is a Converted Lining Annotation?

Certain lined scenes may not automatically transfer due to formatting or changed script text in new revisions. To retain the lining information in your new draft, Scriptation converts the lining to a Standard Annotation.

This means the slate box, slate text, lining, and enders are all converted to a regular annotation. The new annotation can be manipulated just like a Shape Annotation.

How do I know which slates were converted?

Immediately after a Note Transfer, Scriptation shows you a window listing every scene whose slates were converted:

✅ TIP: Best practice is to take a screenshot of this window — or otherwise jot the scene numbers down — so you have a reference while working through the new draft.

📝 NOTE: A scene won't have a mix of converted and original linings. Every lining in a scene is either all converted or all original.

Can I move a Converted Lining Annotation?

Yes — the new Converted Lining Annotation can be moved just like any other annotation. Tap or click to bring up the bounding boxes, then drag to reposition.

Can I modify a Converted Lining Annotation?

Converted Lining Annotations can't be edited as original lining, but you can modify them using the following steps.

Ungrouping the Slate and Lining

Each slate within a converted scene is grouped after the transfer so the slate box, slate text, lining, and enders can be moved together.

To manipulate them separately, tap or click the slate, then tap or click Ungroup.

Modifying Individual Lines for Deletions

Once ungrouped, you can modify each part of the slate box, slate text, lining, and ender to match the new script.

In the example below, a Converted Lining Annotation is Ungrouped and the Eraser Tool eliminates lining corresponding to dialogue cut in the revised draft.

The Selection Tool includes the line and enders...

...and the tramline is Copy & Pasted.

The top of the duplicated segment and the bottom of the original segment are erased with the Eraser Tool.

Finally, the two segments of lining are lined up to match the revised script.

The Lining Annotation can be Copy & Pasted as many times as needed — to erase lining for content that's been removed, or to create space for content that's been added.

Modifying Individual Lines for Added Content

You can also modify the lining for added text by following the same steps and lining up the segments, but not joining them in the final step. Add arrows with the pen tool as shown below — the lining is now "split" so new lining can be added for coverage of the new content.
