How can I set up Dropbox to sync files across devices?

iPad / iPhone Setup

1. Start by tapping the File Browser on the top toolbar:

4. You will then be redirected to a separate sign in where you can log in with your Dropbox username and password. When prompted to grant Scriptation access to your files and folders, tap Allow:

5. From the File Browser, you will now have the Dropbox icon listed under the Connections heading! We highly recommend moving or copying your local files into Dropbox. In doing this you automatically take advantage of Dropbox's version controlled saving, and are backing up your files in the safest way.

Mac Setup

1. If not already installed on your Macbook, download and install the Dropbox app from Dropbox.com.
2. With Scriptation for Mac, there is no additional Dropbox sign-on required within the app. Your Dropbox folders will be visible after clicking Select File from the Scriptation for Mac home screen:

3. By navigating through the File Finder window, you can access all of the files and folders on your computer, including Dropbox.

Importing photos from Dropbox

If you're having trouble opening or importing photos stored in Dropbox through Scriptation's file browser, this is usually a Dropbox sync hiccup rather than an issue with the photo itself. To bring a Dropbox photo into your script, skip the file browser and instead:

1. Open the Dropbox app directly, tap and hold the image, then tap Copy.
2. Switch to Scriptation, tap and hold where you want the image placed on the page, then tap Paste.

If copy/paste doesn't work for a particular image, save it from Dropbox to your device's Photos app first, then use Scriptation's built-in Image tool on the Annotation Toolbar to insert it — this also gives you resizing controls. How do I reconnect Dropbox if files aren't showing up?

If your Dropbox files aren't appearing in Scriptation, or the connection seems stale, try these steps in order:

1. Restart your device — do a full power-off (not just locking the screen), wait a few seconds, then power back on and reopen Scriptation. This resolves most cases.
2. Check your internet connection — Dropbox files require an active connection to load. Make sure you're actually connected to the internet, not just to a Wi-Fi network that itself has no internet access.
3. Disconnect and reconnect Dropbox — On iPad/iPhone, go to Settings > Cloud Storage, disconnect your Dropbox, then add it again following the steps above. This refreshes the authentication and can resolve issues where the connection has gone stale.

If none of these help, reach out to support with a short screen recording of what happens when you navigate to your Dropbox files in Scriptation, along with a copy of one of the affected files.

Does Dropbox work if I don't have Wi-Fi in the field?

Yes — Scriptation is fully functional without a Wi-Fi or data connection. Every time you open a script from Dropbox in Scriptation, a local copy is automatically saved to your device. Any annotations or edits you make while offline are saved locally, and once your device reconnects to Wi-Fi, Scriptation automatically syncs the updated file back to Dropbox.

Best practice: before heading somewhere without Wi-Fi, open the latest version of your scripts on your device while you still have internet access, so the most current copy is cached locally and ready to go.
