How to Hide/Find the Annotation Toolbar
How do I access the Annotation Toolbar?
With your script open, tap anywhere on the screen to display the Top Toolbar.
Tap the Annotate icon to display the Annotation Toolbar.

Now you can start selecting annotation tools to mark up your script.
To hide the Toolbar, simply tap the Annotate button again.
Annotation Toolbar not appearing at all, or not responding?
If tapping Annotate doesn't bring up the Annotation Toolbar, it seems to have disappeared entirely (not just deselected or moved), or it appears but individual tools (like Highlight) are missing or unresponsive, try the following:
- Fully close and reopen the app (not just switch away from it), then re-open your script. This is the most reliable fix for a toolbar that's stuck in a bad state — for example, if a specific tool icon is missing or the toolbar isn't responding even after resizing the window, changing orientation, moving the toolbar to a different position, or closing and reopening your script.
- Restart your device.
- Update Scriptation to the latest version — on Mac, an outdated version around the macOS 26 release could cause the Annotation Toolbar (and Top Toolbar) to disappear behind the OS. This has since been fixed, so updating to the latest version should resolve it.
If none of these steps bring back your Annotation Toolbar, please reach out to support with a short screen recording showing what happens when you tap the screen, along with your exact Scriptation version and device/OS version, via our Troubleshooting Portal. Noting exactly what you were doing right before the toolbar stopped responding (which tools were open, whether you were switching apps, changing orientation, etc.) helps our developers track down the cause.
