Scriptation is running slowly or crashing.

Even though Scriptation can handle large PDF files (100+ MB), performance can sometimes slow down when multiple scripts and other applications are open simultaneously. This slowing happens because the operating system throttles the device's speed to avoid overheating. The app may even crash if the file is large enough or if there isn't enough available memory to run everything that's open.

Here are a few steps you can take to resolve performance or stability issues:

Update the app: We release updates frequently, often with fixes, so it's a good idea to check to see if you're running the most current version. To see if there's an update available, click here on the device on which you're running Scriptation.

Close additional tabs: Only keep tabs open for files actively being worked on in Scriptation. This way, more memory can be allocated where it's needed.

Optimize your layers: Performing a Layer Optimization is a quick process to minimize document file size, which saves space on your device and keeps Scriptation running quickly.

Turn on the Thumbnail Icon: Turning on the Thumbnail Icon setting in the Settings Menu displays a generic File icon instead of a preview of the top page of a document. This setting can improve memory usage on older devices.

Exit all background applications: By closing out applications running in the background, more memory is available for the foreground apps.

Power off / power on your device: By exiting Scriptation and restarting your device, you may resolve temporary issues.

Archive unneeded Scriptation files: (iPad / iPhone) Move any Scriptation documents stored in the On my iPad / iPhone folder that you won't be using again to cloud storage and / or a Mac. The goal is to run Scriptation as lean as possible. Best practice is to copy whatever files you won't be needing anymore, make sure they're all there in the cloud or on the Mac, go back to your device, move them to the Trash, then empty the Trash.

Delete unused apps: (iPad / iPhone) Go to Settings > General > iPad / iPhone Storage and check to see if you're running low on storage space. If you are, remove any apps you no longer use. Note that some apps, when deleted, will also delete your data, so check before you remove anything.

Update your operating system: Scriptation is optimized to work on the latest version of iOS and the Mac OS. By keeping your device up to date, you can ensure that you have the optimal Scriptation experience. To update, go to the Settings icon and choose Software Update.

Upgrade the device: Consider investing in a newer device with a faster chip and higher-performance memory.

If you've experienced a crash and can no longer open Scriptation, see this article.
