How do I sync files across devices?

To sync scripts and notes across your iPad, iPhone, and Mac, connect Scriptation to the same cloud provider — Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud — on every device, and keep your files inside that cloud folder.

Which cloud provider should I use?


We recommend Dropbox. It's the most reliable for syncing, and it keeps a version history, so you can restore an earlier version if something goes wrong. iCloud is the easiest to set up (no separate account), but it doesn't keep version history and is the least reliable with large files.


Only files stored inside a connected cloud folder sync. Files in On My iPad / On My iPhone, or in your Mac's Desktop or Downloads folder, stay on that one device.


Cloud setup on iPad / iPhone


  1. Tap the File Browser icon on the Top Toolbar;



  1. For iCloud, tap iCloud under Connections — you're already signed in with your Apple ID. For Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive, tap Add Connection;



  1. Select a provider and sign in with that account. You can add as many connections as you need;



  1. Move or copy your local files into the cloud folder.


That's it! Sign in to the same cloud account on each of your other devices.

Import straight into a cloud folder


When you import a new script, choose your cloud folder as the destination on the Import screen. You only need to move or copy a file if it was imported into On My iPad / On My iPhone. After that one-time move, keep opening the file from its cloud folder and your edits keep syncing.


Cloud setup on Mac


Scriptation for Mac has no in-app cloud sign-in and no Connections section — it opens files straight from Finder. iCloud is built in; for Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive, install the provider's desktop app first. Then pin your cloud folder as a Favorite Folder:


  1. On the Scriptation home screen, click Add next to Favorite folders under My files (not Select File);
  2. In the Finder window, go to your cloud folder (for iCloud, iCloud Drive → Scriptation);
  3. Click Open.

Organizing project folders on Mac


Create project folders in Finder, right inside your cloud folder — for example, a folder named after your project inside iCloud Drive → Scriptation or your Dropbox folder — then move your scripts into it. Scriptation's Recent Files list only holds shortcuts, so organizing in Finder won't break it.


Syncing between iPad and Mac


  1. On your iPad, open the File Browser and make sure the script is inside a connected cloud folder, not On My iPad. If it isn't, Copy it into your cloud folder;
  2. On your Mac, click Select File on the Scriptation home screen (or open your Favorite Folder);
  3. Go to the same cloud folder (for iCloud, iCloud Drive → Scriptation);
  4. Select the PDF file (not the folder) and click Open.


The file opens on your Mac with all of its iPad annotations.


📝 NOTE: Signing in with the same Apple ID carries your Industry Pro subscription across devices, but it doesn't sync files — files only sync through a shared, connected cloud folder.


My file opens blank on Mac


If a script opens on Mac without your iPad annotations, you probably imported a fresh copy of the original PDF. Your annotations live in the synced Scriptation file, so open that file from your cloud folder with Select File instead of importing the original again.


Syncing between iPad and iPhone


  1. Make sure Industry Pro is active on both devices;
  2. On each device, connect the same cloud account (iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive) from the File Browser;
  3. Keep your scripts inside that cloud folder — files in On My iPad / On My iPhone won't sync.


Switching between devices


Work on one device at a time. Before you switch, switch tabs or close the file so your latest changes sync, and give it a moment to finish. Editing the same file on two devices at once can create a conflicted copy — see How do I avoid conflicted copies with multiple devices of my own?. To push a file right away, use Sync to Cloud.


Sharing a synced folder with another person's device


You don't need the same Apple ID or Scriptation account to share files. Connect both devices to the same cloud account (for example, one shared Dropbox account). Once a cloud account is connected, Scriptation's File Browser can reach everything in it — you can't limit it to one subfolder — so use a separate cloud account that holds only the files you want to share.
