How do I share layers with my team?
📝 NOTE: This video shows an older user interface and some of the exact steps may have changed.
Layers lets you organize your annotations — highlights, photos, and written notes — into separate screen overlays that can be toggled on and off.
You can export a layer with a set of annotations as a Scriptation Layer File (.slf), and other Scriptation users can then import that layer file into their own PDF script.
Exporting a Layer as a Scriptation Layer File
You can start the export from the Menu in the Top Toolbar (added in Scriptation 6.0) or from the Layers sidebar — both paths reach the same export options.
Method 1: From the Top Toolbar Menu (Scriptation 6.0)
- Touch or click the Menu icon (the three-dot icon) in the top-right corner of the Top Toolbar;
- Under the Share Document section, touch or click Export Layers;
- Choose Layer File (Importable to Scriptation).

Method 2: From the Layers Sidebar
- Touch or click the Layers icon to display the Layers menu;

- In the Layers list, touch or click the Export icon at the upper left;

- Choose Export SLF.

Choose your layer and share
Once you've opened the export options, the steps are the same for both methods:
- Select the layer you'd like to export, then touch or click Share:

- The standard iOS or macOS share dialog will open — from here you can send or save the Scriptation Layer File the same way you would any other file:

- When the recipient receives the file, they can open it in Scriptation, choose the correct target file, and the exported layer will be added to it. See How to Import Layers for more details.
